Tottenham switch focus to “amazing” FA Cup winner after Bryan Mbeumo setback

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a significant setback in their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

The Cameroon international — who scored 20 Premier League goals last season — was widely tipped to follow former Brentford boss Thomas Frank to North London after he was appointed Spurs manager following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou.

However, Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to land the 24-year-old attacker. After seeing an initial bid rejected, United have returned with an improved offer reportedly worth over £60 million, according to talkSPORT. Talks have accelerated in the past 24 hours and are expected to continue throughout the week.

Mbeumo is now said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, where he would join Ruben Amorim’s revamped attack alongside fellow summer signing Matheus Cunha, who recently joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The loss of Mbeumo will come as a major blow to Tottenham, especially after a dismal campaign that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League. The club is in urgent need of attacking reinforcements if they hope to climb back into contention.

Fortunately for Spurs fans, the club is already turning its attention to an alternative target — one who could prove just as exciting.

Tottenham Switch Focus to Eze

Following their setback in the pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shifted their attention to Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze, according to talkSPORT.

The England international was a standout performer for Palace last season, delivering an exceptional campaign with 14 goals and 11 assists. His efforts helped the Eagles achieve their highest-ever Premier League points total — and more significantly, claim their first major piece of silverware, defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley. Eze scored the winning goal in that historic victory.

Still under contract until 2027, Eze won’t come cheap. A £68 million release clause reportedly became active at the end of the season, meaning any club interested in his services will need to pay a substantial fee.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner will undoubtedly be reluctant to part with his star man. Speaking earlier in the season after Palace’s 3–0 win over Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Glasner praised Eze’s ability: “He always has the confidence, we know he’s an amazing finisher to cut inside on his right foot with an amazing finish.”

As Spurs look to rebuild under new manager Thomas Frank following a turbulent season, Eze could represent the creative spark they desperately need. However, prying him away from Selhurst Park will be no easy task.
