The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern are distraught to see that their experienced centre-defender and captain, John Terry is set to depart Birmingham this summer. The Chelsea legend joined Aston Villa last summer with the aim to get the Villains back in the Premier League, although the club fell at the final hurdle, losing 1-0 to Fulham in the play-off final on Saturday.

The club took a huge financial risk this season, pumping money into signing a number of experienced Premier League and Championship stars with the hope of gaining promotion back to the Premier League, just two years after they lost their top-flight status. Unfortunately, Steve Bruce couldn’t provide the fans with the promotion that they craved and now the club have been left unable to pay the wages demanded of players like Terry.
The summer will be a long and hard one for Aston Villa fans, who will be living with regret over what might have been as they prepare for another promotion chasing year in the second-tier of English football. Despite this, the club’s 4th place finish last season was impressive and saw them play some fantastic football at times, with the 4-1 thrashing of Wolves particularly memorable.
