Newcastle United have signed Cedwyn Scott from Hebburn Town on a short trial basis.
Scott on the radar
The Magpies signed Callum Wilson during the summer, and the former Bournemouth man has hit the ground running. The England international already has six goals in seven Premier League games this season.

However, it seems that Steve Bruce and co are still on the lookout for another centre-forward. They have signed Scott on trial from the non-league outfit, with him set to play with the club’s U23s in a bid to fully prove himself.
Potential bargain
In some ways, this could be seen as a controversial signing – Scott was also linked with the Toon’s fierce rivals Sunderland. Newcastle, though, have made the first move.
So far this campaign, he has 21 goals in just 16 games for Hebburn, with his form reminiscent of that of Jamie Vardy. The Leicester striker, of course, initially impressed with Halifax Town and Fleetwood in non-league football before moving to the East Midlands and helping the Foxes win the Premier League title in 2016.

Of course, it would be too much to say that Scott is on course to repeat that trajectory, but this is a move with no risk for Bruce and co. If he impresses during his trial, there is no reason why they shouldn’t take him to the north-east on a permanent basis.
