Sheffield Wednesday: Fans respond in angry fashion to Garry Monk’s comments on Barnsley match

Sheffield Wednesday may be on a bad run of form but they have a great chance to put things right away to Luton, who lie bottom of the Championship, in tonight’s clash.
The Owls have lost a bit of spark in attack with Steven Fletcher out injured but Josh Windass showed promise last time out by scoring the opener against Barnsley, who only equalised because of a goalkeeping mistake by Cameron Dawson.
Garry Monk has been speaking about the clash against the Tykes in the build-up to the trip to Luton, stating that his side competed with Barnsley, but needed to “show more composure”. Some fans have reacted badly to those comments and, given they were up against a relegation-threatened side, their frustrations are perfectly understandable.
The South Yorkshire outfit have shown they are capable of beating the best with wins over Leeds and Brentford this campaign, so there is little excuse for the inconsistency they have displayed and their frequent poor showings – managing just two shots on target against Barnsley.
Here is what some fans have been saying in reaction to Monk’s comments.
“Competed” we should be hammering them

We need much more than competing especially against teams at the bottom, we need passion, we need pride, we need confidence, we need belief, and we need inspiration, all need to be instilled into the team by the management.

By ‘competed’ – surely he means ‘matched them for mediocrity’ …and don’t call me Shirley

Well done Garry. A wage bill multiple times theirs and we “competed”. Maybe don’t ostracise your best players?

Owls fans, do you agree with your fellow supporters, or does Garry Monk deserve to be cut some slack due to players underperforming? Tell us how you feel in the comments…
