‘Charnley out!’ - Newcastle United fans fume on Twitter at transfer report

The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are somewhat frustrated about the way their summer has panned out thus far.

While Rafa Benitez remains in charge, the Magpies have only really been able to add Florian Lejune to their squad, along with the permanent addition of last season’s loan star, Christian Atsu.

Though the Toon Army have been linked with a whole host of players across the footballing globe, it seems there is a transfer impasse on Tyneside right now. Indeed, the club looked to have missed out on another reported target.

Arsenal and England left-back Kieran Gibbs has previously been linked with a move to St. James’ Park, though recent reports suggest the 27-year-old is closing in on a move to West Bromwich Albion.

Now, the Baggies are undoubtedly an established Premier League side, though many of our local Magpies cannot understand why Newcastle aren’t going in for the left-back, who operates in a problem position for the Toon.
