Whilst not a very popular figure in the Football Transfer Tavern, everyone can agree that this is a nice touch from the Chelsea legend…
Wayne Rooney’s struggles in recent weeks have been well documented both within the Football Transfer Tavern and outside of it – and the Man Utd and England star has been facing the brunt of some pretty harsh criticism over the last few days.
Whether he deserves to start for the England national team or not is another debate entirely, but our landlord is certainly of the opinion that the English faithful in the Tavern should hold off on their criticism of the man who holds the goalscoring record for his country and has done so much in the game.
Various figures have come out to defend Rooney over the last few days – but one England legend has surprisingly taken to Instagram to voice his opinion on the matter. They have often been on the opposite team in the Premier League – but Chelsea captain John Terry is full of praise for the England captain.
Speaking on his own personal Instagram page, Terry said: “We should all show more respect to this great player and man”.
He added: “Let’s all get behind Wayne and the England team tomorrow”.

High praise from Terry indeed – and that just shows how highly respected Rooney is amongst the people that play the game.
Criticising Rooney is one thing, but you cannot question his achievements in the game.
Our landlord is not a very big John Terry fan – but he thinks that this is class from the Chelsea man.
