Heads are being nodded in agreement here at the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Caught Offside that Chelsea are finally set to offer club legend Frank Lampard a new deal.
Much has been made over the future of the player and quite frankly as one punter quips, the whole situation has shown Chelsea up to prove rather classless when dealing with a club stalwart.
To stall on a deal for a club legend is one thing but to do it in such a public and undignified way is quite another and given that it has taken the expected return of Jose Mourinho and outcries from fans to land Lampard an extension, there is much unrest at the club.
For a midfielder to reach the amount of goals Lampard has, it is quite simply sensational and despite the less than glowing praise from Rafael Benitez, everyone in sport recognised the achievement and now Chelsea are set to follow this up with the offer of a new deal for the 34-year-old. Most people had felt that should Mourinho return in the summer, a new deal would be offered as Lampard was perhaps his most trusted player on the field with the exception of Didier Drogba and the two are still close seven years later.
