Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern before tonight’s Champions League clash are discussing whether they have the most expensive player in the world, following demands from the club.
The Daily Mail states Chelsea have demanded Real Madrid pay more than £86m for Eden Hazard, which would set a new world-record; beating the figure Los Blancos paid Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale in 2013.
Despite struggling this season, along with the rest of the Blues squad, Hazard is hot-property after winning Player Of The Year last season and scoring 14 Premier League goals on the way to Chelsea lifting the league title.
However the 24-year-old has been linked with an exit following Chelsea’s woeful start, which has seen them lost six of their opening 11 Premier League matches, with suggestions Hazard will leave if the club fail to achieve Champions League football.
Whilst Chelsea may seem powerless to stop Hazard leave should he demand an exit, Roman Abramovich’s side would be set for a major pay-day if they offloaded the player; but fans aren’t convinced they will be able to get such a high figure for the Belgian international.
