January is shaping up to be Maurizio Sarri’s first real opportunity to flex his power in the transfer market, and we expect he’ll be doing just that to improve his chances of passing league leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.
Despite the strength of Chelsea’s current squad, it’s imperative for Sarri to be given the chance to build his “own” team if he really wants to succeed.
Indeed, excluding Jorginho and Kovacic, the first-team largely consists of players he’s inherited from previous managers, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Enough time analysing the squad of Napoli, Sarri’s old club, for example, helps you realise that the Italian favours smaller, more technical players – like Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens, and Allan.
Knowing that certainly helps you make sense of his most recent target Christian Pulisic, who, according to the Daily Mail, is set for a £70 million bid.
He’s young, bold, technically gifted, extremely quick, agile on the ball, and possesses heaps of potential. Exactly the kind of player Sarri wants.
