Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of transfer target Ben Chilwell from Leicester.
After the valiant attempts from the Foxes to keep hold of the England international, Chelsea have managed to get their man. An update from The Telegraph’s John Percy (via Sportslens), suggested that both clubs settled on a £50million transfer fee.
Will Ben Chilwell be a good signing for Chelsea?
Roman Abramovich recently gave the green light to spend that exact amount on Chilwell. The Russian has backed Frank Lampard in this transfer window and wants him to spend a minimum of £150m in the bulk purchase of the Leicester left-back, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
It has also been confirmed that Chilwell has signed a five-year deal, with Percy suggesting he will earn £190,000 per week. According to Spotrac, this will see the Englishman overtake Christian Pulisic as the highest earning player at the club.
The arrival of the full-back will be a welcome sight after Lampard has stressed the importance of bolstering his defence. With the manager completely unhappy with Kepa Arrizabalaga and a minimum of four defenders potentially being sold, the signing of Chilwell could set the tone for things to come.
The Blues have stacked themselves high in attack following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. Now, they could also be looking at two new solid senior defenders, with Thiago Silva also set to join the West London outfit.
