John Terry hasn’t really done well enough this season to warrant a new contract, and so if he leaves as expected this summer, a replacement will be necessary.
Terry isn’t a man that can be replaced easily, though, with a top quality player undoubtedly needed for Antonio Conte’s side – and it would appear as though his summer plans are taking shape.
Chelsea have been linked with a number of defenders in recent months, but according to the Evening Standard, Virgil van Dijk is also in the mix – and this is a report that has delighted the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern.
The Chelsea punters would certainly like to see a Premier League player come in, given that they will be able to adjust immediately, and van Dijk has arguably been the Premier League’s best defender in recent months.
His season has, somewhat, been disrupted through injury this year – but that hasn’t stopped him being a key part of proceedings at St Marys Stadium.
A natural centre-back, a combination of Kurt Zouma, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta is definitely exciting the Blues in the pub.
