Chelsea’s campaign has delivered mixed signals so far.
They remain firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish and have progressed to the FA Cup semi-finals, yet inconsistency has been a recurring theme.
A managerial shake-up in January, which saw Enzo Maresca replaced by Liam Rosenior, has only added to the sense of transition at Stamford Bridge.
With performances fluctuating, the upcoming summer window is shaping up to be a crucial one — and it appears the club are already laying the groundwork for a key defensive addition.
Chelsea Will “100%” Move for Coulibaly
Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of Werder Bremen’s highly-rated centre-back Karim Coulibaly ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 18-year-old has quickly attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs thanks to his rapid development in Germany. Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG are all monitoring his progress, but Chelsea have now intensified their interest.
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Blues are firmly in the race and fully aware that a transfer is on the horizon.
He revealed: “Chelsea have entered the race for the 18-year-old talented centre-back Karim Coulibaly, who is seen as a top talent with huge potential. Chelsea are very impressed with his development.”
Plettenberg added: “A summer move is 100% planned. Several top clubs are scouting him, including Real Madrid, Man Utd, Newcastle, PSG and Napoli.”
Werder Bremen are understood to be holding out for a fee in the region of €40–50 million, reflecting both the player’s potential and the level of competition for his signature.
Strengthening in central defence has become a clear priority for Chelsea this season, with inconsistency and lack of depth proving costly at times. Coulibaly’s profile — young, physically strong, and already gaining top-level experience — makes him an ideal long-term investment. If the Blues can win the race, he could play a major role in stabilising their backline for years to come.
