Here in the Football Transfer Tavern Chelsea fans are looking up with interest after The Guardian‘s Dominic Fifield reported that the Blues have registered an interest with Galatasaray for their Turkish international forward Burak Yilmaz.
Yilmaz, 27, has impressed during his first season with the Istanbul-based side, scoring eight goals in the Champions League and Chelsea have now been told that it was take an offer in excess of £20 million to see him leaving the club after just one year.
Jose Mourinho, who will be appointed as new Chelsea manager within a few weeks, is looking to bring in an established forward to compete with Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and possibly young starlet Romelu Lukaku.
The Real Madrid boss saw the Turk during the recent Champions League quarter-final and will now speak to the Stamford Bridge club about a possible transfer for the forward who scored 24 league goals for the Turkish side this season.
Yilmaz has indicated he wishes to stay in Istanbul but the club may still sell him. “I’m really happy here,” he said this month. “I have a long-term contract here. If an offer is put on the table then it’s the club’s decision which will matter, not mine.”
