One of the sweetest feelings for the Chelsea fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern this season has been the fact their summer signings have largely paid off extremely well, despite initially raised eyebrows.
Neither the returning David Luiz or Marcos Alonso were looked upon as overly exciting additions on their initial arrivals in west London, though both have become major parts of Antonio Conte’s title challenge.
Which is why reports from the Daily Telegraph have proved such a surprise amongst the Blues in the bar, who claim the aforementioned Spaniard’s position at Stamford Bridge could be at risk. While the former Sunderland and Bolton man has proved mightily impressive amongst our drinkers in the left-wing back role, the report suggests top brass in SW6 are casting eyes over more options for that area.
AS Monaco duo Thomas Lemar and Djibril Sidibe – who proved so impressive against Manchester City in the Champions League recently – are understood to have come across their radar. Lemar is a particularly exciting prospect, previously linked to Liverpool, and is largely an attacking player, though could reportedly be converted into a pulsating wing-back.
Some of our west London locals feel sorry for Alonso if this really is the case, though cannot hide their excitement about the notion of the Monaco pair’s potential arrival.
