Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their game against Everton later this afternoon.
The Blues did not get off to the best start in their Premier League title defence with a shock loss at home to Burnley but they certainly bounced back from that against Spurs with a win at Wembley.
For sure, then, it’s not all doom and gloom at the Bridge right now but you do get the feeling that they need a few extra players before the window shuts.
Indeed, one man we have on our minds is PSG’s Marquinhos with him becoming a top class defender at the Ligue 1 club.
Certainly, learning from someone like Thiago Silva is always going to be a benefit and you could argue that Chelsea still need another centre-half.
Indeed, Gary Cahill – though the skipper – has not started this season too well in getting sent off on the opening day whilst new signing Antonio Rudiger looks like he could take some time to settle in to the Premier League.
Andreas Christensen, meanwhile, still has plenty to learn and so the club can only really boast David Luiz as a top bracket defender in many ways.
The club needs another man in that area, then, and with Marquinhos’ superb adaptability, movement across the pitch and quality on the ball, he’s the kind of modern centre-half that would fit into Conte’s back-three alongside Luiz and one other.
