Chelsea supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been left thrilled with reports from Metro with the paper reporting that the Blues are preparing to increase their interest in Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa.
Jose Mourinho has reportedly made the in-form 24-year-old his prime transfer target for the summer as he tries to secure a world-class striker.
Other links to top striking talents appear to have gone cold, and Mourinho has decided that the Brazilian-born Spanish international forward is the man he wants to lead his attack next term.
Costa has been in outstanding form for Diego Simone’s team with 21 goals in his 26 matched and he is now likely to feature for reigning champions Spain at the upcoming World Cup.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be also seeking his signature but Mourinho believes he stands the best chance given the Blues’ strong relationship with Atletico.
Young Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois has spent the past three seasons with the La Liga outfit and with Atletico valuing Costa at around £27 million he could be on the move in the summer.
It is thought that the SW6 club will want to have the transfer wrapped up before the World Cup when Costa’s price tag could go through the roof.
