Transfer deadline day is fast approaching, and the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a busy day…
With a lack of depth and overall quality, Chelsea need to sign a few players if they want to stand any chance of winning silverware this season.
They aren’t short of targets, it seems, and another player has reportedly peaked Antonio Conte’s interest. According to Bild, Chelsea are keen on Bayern Munich defender Rafinha – who is struggling for game time at the Allianz Arena at present.
A versatile defender, he is able to play across the backline – a trait that will likely be attracting Antonio Conte. With Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses currently Chelsea’s only natural fits on the flanks, depth is vital. Whilst Rafinha is perhaps more naturally suited to a more defensive role, his quality and experience would allow him to impress in that position.
Significantly, the Blues are reportedly yet to make a move for the defender – but that doesn’t suggest that an approach won’t come before tomorrow evening’s deadline.
Landlord’s Verdict
Rafinha has been around for a very long time, and at Bayern Munich, he has won so many trophies. As Chelsea look to progress in Europe this season, that could be key.
His versatility is important, and he would solve a few of Chelsea’s problems in that regard.
At 31-years-old, he’s older than Chelsea’s typical target – but at this point, the Blues can’t afford to be picky.
