Chelsea star set to be offered £8m deal as exit looms

The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern think that his time at Stamford Bridge could be up…

John Terry has been at Chelsea for the best part of 20 years – but this season looks set to be his last.

He has fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte, who favours a system of 3 defenders – whilst Terry’s fitness has also come under question.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the Chelsea fans in the Tavern think that his time in London could be at an end – but it would seem that the defensive veteran will have no shortage of suitors should Chelsea not choose to extend his deal.

According to the Daily Mail, Terry is set to be offered a bumper £8 million deal by Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande, of whom he is an ambassador.

The club have reportedly been keen on Terry for a while, as the Chinese league looks to improve and begin to compete with the European leagues.

The Chelsea fans in the Tavern are disappointed about this – but they think that the writing is on the wall. Terry is hardly playing this season, and with Cahill, Azpilicueta and Luiz playing so well – there really is no route back into the first team for the Blues captain.

Our landlord thinks that one final payday in China could be the perfect way to close out a legendary career for the defender. He think thinks that a return to London as a Chelsea coach could well be on the cards thereafter…
