Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to see who they sign in the summer with them fully expecting them to have the Premier League trophy on show at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have been back to their best this season under new manager Antonio Conte and you have to feel that it’s highly unlikely that they will now let it slip.
Indeed, our landlord reckons that what Conte needs to be concentrating on now is building up his side ahead of a title defence and Champions League football.
Leonardo Bonucci, though, might not be a part of that.
The Daily Mail – despite referring to him as a Chelsea and, indeed, Manchester City target – have reported that the Italian defender would ideally like to see his contract out with current club Juventus – a deal that runs to 2021.
In such a scenario, then, the Blues would be unlikely to get him in with Bonucci saying on matters:
“I don’t know if the boss will go to the Premier League, but I’m owned by this club and the club will decide whether or not to sell me. I hope to honour the contract.”
We may still see Chelsea make a bid, of course, and if Juventus decide to sell up he could still be on his way but our landlord reckons these words are pretty clear evidence that the defender will be staying put.
