There is certainly surprise here in the Football Transfer Tavern after we hear of the claim coming from the Daily Express. The publication seem to think that Chelsea are set to complete a deal for Turkish international Arda Turan shortly.
It has been clear for some time that the Atletico Madrid player had been looking for a move away from the Vicente Calderon and now it seems that he could well be set to land one with the West London club thought to be in the advanced stages of preparing a bid for the player which will activate his £20 million release clause.
Chelsea are of course waiting for Jose Mourinho to officially be announced as their next manager and the wheels are well and truly in motion for the new signings Mourinho wants to bring to the club. The manager will of course know Turan well given that he only plays across Madrid for Atletico and now could well be on his way to Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal had been heavily linked to the player in January and there was even talk of a bid for Turan which failed to materialise and now it seems Arsene Wenger will have to watch one of his targets play for yet another one of his rivals.
