Chelsea transfer target planning his exit

falcao.jpgChelsea fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern were given a boost in their chase for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao today after the forward was given permission to leave the La Liga club this summer, according to The Sun.

Atletico are ready to let their star Colombian international striker depart this summer after his 28 goals in 33 games ensured that the Vicente Calderon-based club will be playing Champions League football again next season.

With Jose Mourinho a massive admirer of the 27-year-old while at Real and the Special One set to arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer Chelsea have been strongly linked with a £50 million move for the striker nicknamed El Tigre.

However they could face competition from home and abroad with Manchester City thought to be interested while rumours still persist about Falcao possibly making the switch to Ligue 1 newcomers Monaco instead although he denied speculation after Friday’s Copa del Rey triumph.

Atletico’s general manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin said: “Before the start of the season we talked with Falcao and we promised him ‘if you help us to reach the Champions League next season, Atletico will help you’.

“Every decision he will take, Atletico will be with him.”

Any transfer could be made complicated given the issue of third party ownership that surrounds the forward.
