There is disappointment for Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Goal.com claim that the club are set to miss out on Atletico Madrid’s Arda Turan who was high up on their transfer wishlist as the summer approached.
The club were thought to be tracking the Atletico Madrid player who did seem keen on a move. Now it seems that the Copa del Rey champions have had a change of heart regarding the player and want to keep hold of him. Turan only arrived two seasons ago from Turkish giants Galatasaray and it seems that his stay in the Spanish capital will go on for a while yet.
Incoming Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is a known fan of the player and that coupled with the fact the club were already looking at the Turkish international made many feel like a deal was on the cards. Now his agent has claimed the club do not want to sell the player and noted that the winger has become a key part of the successful side. He claimed: “Arda is a valuable player to the team.
“The board does not want to sell him. We will talk to the board soon about his future.”
Turan initially cost £15.5 million when the club bought him and they would be looking for significantly more than that should they chose to sell him this summer.
