Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been toasting their side’s fine start to the season over the international break.
The North East giants have won three of their opening seven Premier League matches to sit ninth in the table, and their 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool last week was further indication that they will provide a tough test for any side in the division this season.
The Magpies, who earned promotion from the Championship last term, go to Southampton on Sunday seeking to record another Premier League victory, and they go there off the back of some good news as the club’s official website have confirmed the permanent signing of midfielder Mikel Merino.
The 21-year-old made the move to St James’ Park on a loan deal during the summer and has since excelled under Rafa Benitez, starting their last six league games on the spin, and providing much-needed steel and determination in the middle of the park.
And the Spain Under-21 international has now officially made his move from German club Borussia Dortmund permanent, which is news that has stimulated quite a response from Magpies supporters on Twitter.
And it’s fair to say that they are thrilled with news of Merino’s permanent move…
