Life’s pretty sweet to say the least for the Chelsea fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve watched their side return to the summit of the Premier League under the stewardship of Antonio Conte.
Since arriving in west London, the Italian has endeared himself to the Blues in the bar thanks to his tactical tinkerings and his fiery touchline antics, with those from SW6 surely about to reclaim the league crown they so meekly surrendered last term.
As a result, Conte has been hailed as the man to lead Chelsea up against the two Manchester powerhouses for years to come, though a report from the Times has scared our west London locals somewhat. They claim the former Italy and Juventus coach is ready to play hardball over his future in England amid links with a quick-fire return to Serie A.
Inter Milan have been touted as a potential destination and, while there have been reports a new contract is on the way, this one suggests the 47-year-old is wanting assurances over the club’s work in the transfer market this summer. It’s believed that Conte wants to build a squad capable of challenging in the Champions League, with a new centre-forward and central midfielder thought to be priorities.
Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois are reportedly ‘angling’ for moves back to Spain, so any overhaul could cost upwards of £200m. With that in mind, our resident Chelsea fans are just hoping Roman Abramovich backs him.
