The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have enjoyed a mixed start to the Premier League season…
Antonio Conte is beginning to realise that the job at Chelsea isn’t going to be as easy at it perhaps first appeared.
That isn’t to say that it’s a ridiculously hard job, but the Italian has seen both the best and worst of his team already this season – and will need to make sure consistency is what he focuses on over the coming months.
The Blues fans here in the Transfer Tavern certainly hope he can after last year and are still relatively confident that the good times will be back sooner rather than later, with players like Diego Costa looking back to their best.
Conte, then, has a good idea of what he needs to do at the club now and he may feel it’s time to let some players go from the Bridge. Our landlord agrees, but reckons this two shouldn’t be let go of just yet…
Victor Moses
Moses finally looks like he’s going to play at Chelsea and he has done decently enough when he’s played this season.
His performance at Hull was a real highlight.
He’s been crying out for game time ever since he joined the club and if he starts getting it under Conte he may finally achieve what many thought he might have been able to do when he came through as a youngster at Crystal Palace.
Cesc Fabregas
Cesc Fabregas has been in good form since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, but for whatever reason – Antonio Conte just does not rate the Spaniard.
Maybe it’s his lack of mobility, or maybe it’s his lack of defensive quality – but the Italian boss has preferred Matic in the midfield so far.
However, Chelsea must not sell the man that was so crucial to their first team en route to the Premier League title in 2015. Neither Matic or Kante offer the offensive threat of Fabregas, and whilst that is fine against mediocre Premier League sides; it will come as a major blow should the Blues come up against a more threatening opponent.
His passes can open up even the most unbreakable defence; and Conte must not underestimate that.
