Conte pushing for midfielder move as Chelsea become ‘optimistic’ about sealing transfer

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperately hoping for a positive end to the summer…

For the most part, it’s been a decent summer for the Blues, with players like Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata moving to Stamford Bridge and making an immediate impact.

However, it’s clear that more work is still needed. Nemanja Matic has left the club, whilst Diego Costa also looks set for an exit – leaving Antonio Conte short of options.

With less than a week to go until the window closes, the Blues need to sign a couple more players at the very least, and it appears as though they are hopeful of sealing the first of those soon. According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are growing increasingly optimistic that a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will come to pass this summer, with the Englishman unlikely to agree to fresh terms at the Emirates.

Chelsea appear very keen on the Englishman, and with good reason. His versatility would immediately solve a few of Chelsea’s big problems, with the Englishman able to fill in out wide, in defence and in the heart of the midfield.

A move will not come cheaply, with £35 million currently being mooted, but Chelsea have left it too late to look to secure any bargains.

Landlord’s Verdict

This move is finally beginning to look likely, and Chelsea will be delighted if they can make it happen.

Arsenal have been pushed into a corner somewhat, but the Blues won’t care, with a move for the Ox exactly what they need at present.

He’s likely to play primarily at right wing-back, with Victor Moses currently Conte’s only option in that role.
