Craig Burley: Harry Kane will have to leave Tottenham eventually

After reaching this year’s Champions League final, Tottenham are getting closer to winning that first trophy under Mauricio Pochettino.

Until that happens, though, the futures of various players will continue to be thrown into doubt. And an ex-player of one of Tottenham’s rivals believes Harry Kane is undoubtedly one of them.

“I think Harry Kane and Pochettino will be there at the start of the season,” former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley told ESPN. “[But] I think Harry Kane will have to go eventually.”

Having signed a new long-term contract not too long ago, as Burley points out, it is unlikely that Kane leaves Tottenham before the start of next season.

Later down the line, though, it would not be a surprise to see the 25-year-old push for a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

If the north London club start to pick up trophies, then there will be no reason for Kane to depart and you could then easily see him remaining at the Premier League outfit for years to come. But that is something they simply are not doing right now, which is going to become problematic sooner or later.

Players of Kane’s quality do not want to be remembered as nearly men, which is exactly what Tottenham are right now having fallen short time and again in both the league and cup competitions.

For Kane and co, it will get to a point where being competitive is just not enough when Tottenham’s rivals can offer them so much more.
