After three years, it’s probably fair to say that Paul Pogba’s time at Manchester United has been eventful.
It could finally be coming to an end, though, that is according to the Frenchman himself, who recently told reporters that it might be time for a new challenge.
A shock to some? Perhaps, but not to Craig Burley, who is not surprised by Pogba’s comments and believes he knows just why the midfielder wants out of Old Trafford this summer. Indeed, let’s analyse his comments in our latest Pundit’s Choice article below.
Speaking on ESPN FC (via Daily Express), Burley said: “If anyone’s surprised he wants to leave, then I’m surprised that they’re surprised! I’m not surprised that he wants out.
“The reason is, one he’s had a lot of stick, two the club doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and three, they’ve named a manager who isn’t [established] and they’ve not made any signings and don’t look like they’re going to be making much headway, certainly early in the transfer market,” the ex-Chelsea man later added.
“So therefore he’s thinking, ‘Well are we going to track down Liverpool and Man City or am I going to have another year of a couple of average signings?”
Whether Pogba has performed or not, in Burley’s words, it is not a surprise to now see him angling for a move away from Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old has gone from playing in the Champions League final and winning Serie A titles to finishing sixth and having to settle for Thursday night football.
When you consider that and the fact that Manchester United are not even competing with Manchester City and Liverpool right now, is it really unimaginable that a World Cup winner is preparing to jump this sinking ship?
It appears not, if his latest comments are anything to go by.
