Crystal Palace are planning on launching an offer for Liverpool star Harvey Elliott. The Eagles have made Elliott their top target as a potential replacement for Eberechi Eze who continues to be linked with a move away from the club.
Eze is heavily linked with a move to North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, with the latter in particular understood to be closer to launching an official offer. Palace are set to demand the value of Eze’s £65m release clause regardless of whether or not it expires, which would then grant them windfall to bid for Elliott.
The Sun has reported that Liverpool will demand around £40m for Elliott, who is highly rated at Anfield despite his limited role last season. Elliott made 53 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool last season, though mainly from the bench.
The player is keen on more first team minutes. He is not considered surplus to requirements at Liverpool, but manager Arne Slot is believed to respect Elliot’s ambition and won’t stand in his way if he angles for a transfer.
Palace keen on Elliott
Initial talks have taken place between the clubs and Palace are understood to have made their admiration for Elliott clear. This could bode well for Liverpool in their ongoing pursuit of Palace skipper Marc Guehi.
The clubs were already in negotiations over a £35m deal for Guehi, and a potential player-plus-cash arrangement has not been ruled out with Elliott moving the other way. A deal could serve all parties well, with Palace landing their ideal target in case of Eze’s departure, and Liverpool landing their top target for defensive cover.
Palace chairman hinted earlier this week that both Eze and Guehi could depart the club this summer, saying he hopes the pair stays but admits nothing is certain as long as the transfer window remains open. Parish also said Guehi, who has a year left on his contract, could be sold to avoid losing the player for free.
