Crystal Palace enjoyed the greatest night in the club’s history this week after beating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 to lift the Europa Conference League trophy for the very first time.
Jean-Philippe Mateta was the hero on the night with the winning goal, but it was a complete team performance from the Eagles, with several of Oliver Glasner’s key players stepping up on the biggest stage.
Now, after a memorable campaign, attention is already beginning to turn towards the summer transfer window — and Palace are reportedly determined to keep hold of some of their biggest stars despite growing interest from elsewhere.
Crystal Palace Want to Keep Wharton
According to Sky Sports, Crystal Palace are eager to persuade Adam Wharton to remain at Selhurst Park for at least another season following their European triumph.
The midfielder has become one of the most highly-rated young players in the Premier League and is attracting serious interest from several top clubs. However, Palace believe the chance to play Europa League football next season could convince him to stay.
Wharton remains under contract until 2029, leaving Palace in a strong negotiating position despite the speculation surrounding his future.
Meanwhile, Daichi Kamada could also remain at the club despite previously appearing likely to leave this summer. The Japan international is out of contract, but reports suggest he is now open to staying in London after Palace’s historic Conference League success.
The Eagles are also moving quickly to maintain continuity in the squad, with the club triggering an extension clause in Jefferson Lerma’s contract to keep him for another season.
After finally delivering silverware and European football, Palace now seem determined to build on their success rather than allow the squad to be dismantled this summer.
