Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has been left pondering the reason behind Leeds‘ form so far this season.
The Yorkshire club have experienced a magnificent run of form over the last few months, returning to the Premier League after a 16-year absence this summer.
Back in the top flight, the Whites have won three of their first six games, most recently ending Aston Villa’s 100% record with a 3-0 away victory on Friday.
Such form has Marcelo Bielsa’s side sitting near the top of the table and the Argentine tactician has received many plaudits for his successful stint in charge of the Whites.
What has Darren Bent said about Leeds?
Speaking to Football Insider, former Tottenham and England striker Bent attempted to work out the secrets behind the success of Leeds, saying:
“I’ve been trying to work this out about Leeds for a long-time, is it players or is it the system?
“I think it’s the system. Whatever player comes into that team and organisation, they are expected to do a certain role and if you don’t do that role youre not going to play.
“I don’t think Bielsa cares how good you are, you can be the best player ever, look at Augustin, he was supposed to be the next big thing that everyone made a song and dance about and Bamford saw him off.
“With what Leeds have got at the moment and Bielsa he must be so proud.
“If they can continue how they are at the minute who knows where they can finish.”
What next for Leeds and how good could they be?
Predicting where Leeds will finish this season is a guessing game, especially considering that not many people would have expected them to start the season so well.
Up next is a tie against former Premier League champions Leicester City, another fixture which could provide a stern test. Having played so well against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa, though, the Whites won’t be overawed.
