The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story in The Sun that has linked the Hammers with a summer swoop for Newcastle United captain, Jamaal Lascelles. The 24-year-old has been in brilliant form this season as he looks set to captain the St James Park faithful to safety in their full season back in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, things aren’t looking so cheery for the West Ham fans propping our bar up. The London Stadium faithful sit just two points above the relegation zone and could’ve done with Lascelles defensive prowess this season as they’ve shipped eleven goals in their last three games. The club’s shambolic defensive figures don’t look promising as they’ve conceded the second most goals of any Premier League club behind Stoke City with 57.
If the Irons do manage to turn their form around and avoid the drop, the addition of Lascelles would be a brilliant one. The centre-half has been unlucky to not be selected for Gareth Southgate’s current England squad, although if the ex-Nottingham Forest defender continues in his current vein of form then it will be no shock to see him on the plane to Russia in summer as he continues to help drag Newcastle away from the drop zone.
You can read our local Irons’ verdict on Lascelles here:
He’s a very good young player but he will learn more under Benitez than Moyes, so why would he join our club in its current, shambolic state? Ashley is no worse than Sullivan as an owner….

Like him. Good leader at Newcastle Utd. Impressive on the ball & a talent in the North East. Hardly think the Magpies would sell him at £15m however.

Will be rejected

Dreaming at £15 million with our owner, he loves the toon as well so can’t see him going anywhere – especially not to West Ham with what’s going on there atm

I still don’t think it’s good enough. If we was the same size club as we was a few years back then yes but the numbers say we ain’t

Good defender would like us to sign him but will be more than that. Around 25 million
