Everton fans are still buzzing over the recent news that Mason Holgate has extended his contract for another five years. The next player on the wishlist to pen their future is club legend Leighton Baines, and there’s talks that it might be happening.
A huge amount of Everton fans have been urging 35-year-old Baines to extend his stay with Everton for his 14th season before he retires. Now mainly a squad player after the arrival of Lucas Digne, Baines could enjoy taking a back-seat during his final year with his boyhood club.
The latest update is that the club are looking to offer the Merseyside local an extra year on his contract. Carlo Ancelotti revealed: “We would like to keep him and are going to talk with him. It would be good for us if he can stay.” (via Everton).
Fans are elated with the news and are hoping that their stalwart left-back will sign on the line and stay for a little bit longer. One fan wants to see him stay for another 12 months and then hopefully take on a coaching role after he retires. Another supporter has voiced that Baines is ‘better than Digne’…
He is a true legend, fantastic player to have as back up and great player to have around the squad and youngsters, he is still keeping fit and has proved he can still do it when called upon

Got to go down as one of the best LBs in our history and possibly the best ever in the PL.

Giving Baines a new contract is a no brainer. He could play another 3 years easily.

What do you think, Blues? Should Leighton Baines stay at Everton a little bit longer?
