Everton fans have reacted to a social media post remembering Leandro Rodriguez’s time at Goodison Park.
Born in Montevideo, Rodriguez began his playing career at Uruguayan side River Plate, impressing on all accounts, being a consistent starter which saw him net an impressive nine goals in all competitions during the 2014/2015 season (Transfermarkt).
Rodriguez’s form particularly hit the heavy heights as he famously scored the winning goal against Nacional in March 2015, and it was that type of form which saw interest come in from Premier League side Everton.
Signing a five-year contract that summer at Goodison Park, Rodriguez arrived in a deal worth £500,000, a deal which at the time seemed a real coup.
Brought in by then boss Roberto Martinez, Rodriguez was expected to step straight into the first team at the Merseyside club with the Spanish coach discussing his previous experience in the Uruguayan top flight.
Despite those comments upon his arrival, Rodriguez did not feature in the first team for Everton in the Premier League, making just one appearance in total over his two year spell at the club.
Loan spells at Brentford and Belgian side Waasland-Beveren failed to see the attacker impress, resulting in an eventual return to his homeland, joining Danubio and then on to spells with Torque, Racing Club and now – Alebrijes de Oaxaca.
Responding to a tweet via fan account @TheGwladysSt, Toffees fans seemed forgetful that Rodriguez once played for the club, with many slamming him.

Came on v Dagenham and Redbridge in last 10mins and still couldn’t go passed defenders in a team that was relegated from football league.

Signing him really did not make sense at all. He was like 23 when we got him and wasn’t exactly setting the Uruguayan league alight. How he managed to get two starts out on loan at Brentford I have no idea.
