Everton crashed out of the Carabao Cup third round last night after losing 4-3 to Southampton on penalties at Goodison Park.
Overall, it was a poor performance on the night from the Toffees with manager Marco Silva ringing the changes.
Nevertheless, there was still enough quality in the starting XI to have gotten the win, and supporters will now feel bitterly disappointed having seen their side knocked out by a Southampton team who have had their struggles this season.
With that being said, it is still very early into Silva’s tenure as Everton manager. There is little reason for the Goodison Park faithful to hit the panic button yet, especially after a defeat in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Last night’s team selection may cause some debate, but the Portuguese coach should not be criticised too harshly for it.

Why cant' your No 1 goalkeeper play anyway, he stands in an 18 yard box most of the game, not exactly wasting a shit load of energy is he mate. Big Nev played virtually every game, injury/suspension permitting. Joke, happens every season now. Another trophy less season coming up.

No matter what the explanation the manager picked wrong team. Cup comps are our realistic chance of success and he made wrong decision. No excuse. Lack of awareness of opportunity. No real game plan. Team that finished should have started.
