Everton: Fans relieved that Vitor Pereira turns down manager role

Everton fans were delighted with the news that Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira has withdrawn from the running to become the new manager at Goodison Park.

The Portuguese manager told Sky Sports that he wanted to stay in China and is managing a club that is close to his heart in a country where the sport is growing.

Pereira, who formerly managed the likes of FC Porto and Fenerbahce, was in the eyesights of the Merseyside club to become the new boss as early as Sunday’s trip to face Manchester United in the Premier League.

Club legend Duncan Ferguson has been taking temporary charge of the first team after Marco Silva was sacked following their 5-2 defeat against hated neighbours Liverpool.

Former Everton striker Tony Cottee says that the club needs to make a decision sooner rather than later on the manager situation and believes that the Scottish coach should be taken into consideration for the full-time role.

Supporters were delighted with the news as they feared a repeat of Marco Silva, making their feelings clear on social media.
