Everton’s under-23s followed the senior squad’s recent victory after beating Leicester City 3-0 in Southport.
The reserve team, captained by first team dabbler Beni Baningime, made easy work of their league match against the young Foxes.

Goals from Callum Connolly, Ellis Simms and Josh Bowler secured the victory and many fans have been talking about their impressive performances. Simms in particular is getting a lot of praise and there are even shouts for him to be integrated into the senior side.
The 19-year-old stood out last season after scoring eight goals in 15 Premier League 2 appearances. He scored an additional goal during Everton’s cup run in the EFL Trophy (via Transfermarkt).
With players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming through the ranks and proving they’re first team material, Simms could be next to follow a similar path, and plenty of Toffees fans seem to think so.

One fan has predicted ‘we will see him soon’ whilst another has boldly proclaimed that ‘we’re gonna win all the leagues’. Everton under-23s are currently fourth in the reserve league table whilst the senior side are second, level on points with Premier League leaders Leicester. Bagging a double in this format is clearly an idea a few supporters can see happening.

I know Simms is young and there is a big gap between the first team and U23s but imo would like to see him on the bench now & again. An out & out goal scorer. Something that we don’t really have. Might be interesting given the service he could receive now #EFC
