Everton: Fans slam Niels Nkounkou omission versus Burnley - Everton News

Many Everton fans have been slamming Carlo Ancelotti for his decision not to put Niels Nkounkou in the squad versus Burnley in the Premier League.

In his pre-game press conference ahead of the clash against Sean Dyche’s team, the Italian boss said that the France U19 international “will have time in the next game”, but he was nowhere to be seen in the 18-man matchday squad.

Instead, Ancelotti decided to play Fabian Delph in the left wing-back role, which did not go down very well with several members of the Goodison Park faithful.

What made things worse is that the 31 year-old had to go off with an injury midway through the first half, and so Andre Gomes came on for him, who is naturally a central midfield player like Delph and would have not felt as comfortable on the left-hand side – as Nkounkou would have.

The Merseyside club ended up switching to a back four and drawing the match 1-1 at Turf Moor in the end, but playing the 20 year-old left-back could have made all the difference, or certainly having him on the bench in case of an injury to Delph.

These EFC supporters slammed the fact that Ancelotti decided to leave Nkounkou out of the sqaud altogether, with one Toffee even claiming that the decision was ‘awful’:
