Everton have confirmed that 20-year-old forward Josh Bowler has joined Championship side Hull City on a season-long loan.
The former QPR player, who joined Everton in 2017, has been influential for Everton’s U23s and signed a one-year contract extension, which will see him stay at the club until 2021.
He trained with the first team multiple times last season, but it has been decided a loan move would be best for his development this time around.
Bowler, who most frequently plays as a right-winger, was the man who scored against Brighton & Hove Albion to secure the 2018/19 Premier League 2 title, as the U23s did the double.
Bowler played 16 Premier League 2 matches for the U23s last season, scoring three times, as well as featuring in all three of the club’s Checkatrade Trophy matches (Transfermarkt).
His only goal involvement against Football League opposition came when his well-hit corner kick was headed in by Bassala Sambou against Barnsley.
This isn’t his only involvement of senior football, as he came on for the last 21 minutes of a 4-0 loss against Norwich City, while he was an 18-year-old at QPR.
This is a brilliant opportunity for Bowler, as he looks to develop his game enough to get himself into Marco Silva’s first-team plans.
He has shown that he can be an impressive and influential player at youth level, but now is the time to do it with the seniors.
