Everton: Kevin Campbell slams Paul Merson for Toffees dig following derby incident

Kevin Campbell has slammed Paul Merson for his dig at Everton after he claimed that Moise Kean had stamped on a Manchester United player for PSG.

Indeed, the Italy international is currently on loan at the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League finalists and came on as a sub as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team ran out 2-1 winners in Paris.

Where will Everton finish in the Premier League?

When Jeff Stelling asked Merson what had happened in the game, the former Arsenal star claimed that Kean had stamped on an opponent and then mentioned the fact that he is on loan from the Merseyside club.

What year did Moyes first take charge at Everton?

Campbell took this as a dig at Carlo Ancelotti’s team, following a ‘horrendous’ challenge from Jordan Pickford on Liverpool ace Virgil Van Dijk in the derby over the weekend, with reports that the Netherlands international will now miss the rest of the 2020/21 term and possibly even longer through injury.

Taking to social media, Campbell tweeted:

“Keep it coming as I want people to show the same energy when the next incident happens!”

Indeed, the former Toffees player is implying that the constant digs toward his old side for this incident should be replicated the other way if a Blues player were to suffer the same fate as Van Dijk.

Should Pickford have been retrospectively banned?

Pickford has not been punished for his horror tackle, as he was not sent off in the game and has since not received a retrospective ban for his action.

This may give a reason as to why Merson could be trying to take a dig at EFC, but Campbell has made it clear in his tweet that the reaction should also be the other way around if an Everton player were to suffer a horrific injury like Van Dijk.

Evertonians, find out why VAR did not send Pickford off here, and do not forget to comment below!
