Noel Whelan has been blasting Alex Iwobi ahead of Everton’s game versus Manchester United in the Premier League.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds United striker was asked as to whether the Nigeria international has a future at the Goodison Park faithful, to which he said:
“Iwobi has had his opportunities and he has failed to take them up to now.
“When you do not take them you fall down the pecking order. That is what has happened to Alex Iwobi.
“His performance against Southampton was shocking. He was brought off at half-time and rightly so.
“You do not get too many chances at life in general and football is no different. Unfortunately, Ancelotti has seen enough and he believe there is others that deserve their opportunity now.”
Iwobi was ‘shocking’ against Southampton
Indeed, as Whelan rightfully points out, Iwobi was truly ‘shocking’ against the Saints as the Merseyside club slumped to a rather dismal 2-0 loss at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.

He was so poor versus Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team so much so that he was taken off at half-time. The 24 year-old failed to register a single shot on target, key pass or successful cross in the first half of the game (Sofascore), so it was not a surprise that Carlo Ancelotti decided to take him off.
Iwobi has not taken his chances
Indeed, as Whelan claims, Iwobi has simply not taken the chances that he has been given ever since his move from fellow top-flight rivals Arsenal, and so has fallen down the pecking order at the Toffees.

The wide man has only managed to score a mere three goals and make just three assists in 37 games in all competitions for the Blues so far (Transfermarkt).
Will Iwobi start versus Manchester United?
It is difficult to see Iwobi starting versus Man United given his rather poor displays as of yet, especially with James Rodriguez returning.
The winger will have to make the most of his opportunities off of the bench if he wants Ancelotti to start him in more games.
