England’s first World Cup since 1966 is the talk of the Tavern after a young Three Lions squad sealed victory over Venezuela. No one does senseless hyperbole like English punters, and just like West Ham in 66, it’s the turn of the Everton fans to proclaim themselves the winners.

Five of the victorious side are Everton players, and that doesn’t even include the likes of Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Brendon Galloway, all of whom are young, English and Toffee, too.

But if the distant future looks bright for the Merseysiders, the near future is a little bit more uncertain. There is a worrying potential for departures this summer, with Ronald Koeman hoping to keep some of the club’s best talent. But that might not be possible.

Instead, what the Toffees may need to do is look for clever signings to supplement the young and exciting team they already have. Arsenal could be the perfect team to look towards, with a number of players not currently in the plans of Arsene Wenger.

Here are three overlooked Arsenal players who could really help Everton in different ways…

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Of the 21 youngsters brought to South Korea to win the World Cup for England’s U20 side, five of them play their club football for Everton. And that doesn’t even include the Toffees’ young player of the year Tom Davies.

Everton seem to be adept at bringing through young talent these days, and another of the standout performers in Korea was Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Not yet getting a game for Arsenal, the youngster could flourish alongside international teammates at Everton.

Lucas Perez

He hasn’t always had a fair crack of the whip at Arsenal, and given his spell in England has been characterised by being overlooked and left on the bench, it might just be the case that Perez has had enough and wants to return to Spain.

That would be a shame, as for a club like Everton – building a squad capable of qualifying for the Champions League – a forward of that sort of quality, and who can thrive when given a chance in the team, could be a great addition.

Alex Iwobi

Another breakthrough youngster at Arsenal, the Gunners may not want to see him leave, but if Arsene Wenger does spend money this summer, that could leave Alex Iwobi without a place in the team. If Everton are to lose both Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley this summer, Iwobi could be a clever addition to give the Toffees creativity and ability on the break.
