Going into the summer of 2016, Moussa Dembele would enter it as a free agent having decided against signing a new deal at Fulham.
The Frenchman was fresh off a season where he was able to score 15 Championship goals in 43 appearances, and attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham along the way (via Sky Sports).
However, it was Celtic who ended up signing the 22-year-old and, while he may not be in the good books of supporters right now, that was not the case upon his arrival.

Minutes from joining Spurs in Jan Joe. Clearly a talent. 17 goals in all comps last year at 19. Delighted.

Dembele now finds himself at Lyon, and angered Celtic fans with his decision to jump ship so late in the transfer window, but prior to that the Celtic Park faithful could not show anything other than admiration for the striker.
During his first season in Glasgow, he registered 32 goals in all competitions and truly elevated Celtic to another level.
Celtic were unable to win any of their Champions League group stage matches that campaign, but the club were competitive in games against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Bundlesiga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach with Dembele scoring in clashes against both teams.
The France U21 international never managed to reach those sort of heights the following season — although injuries have played their part — but, nevertheless, he was still a high-calibre addition to the squad who will be missed.
The hype surrounding his arrival to Celtic Park was truly justified given his contribution to the success the club have had in the last two years.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
