West Ham supporters have been pretty content in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team move a point closer to Premier League safety after securing a 1-1 draw with Stoke City on Monday night.
David Moyes’ men have enjoyed something of a resurgence in recent weeks in beating Southampton and drawing with Chelsea, results which put some distance between themselves and the bottom three. Yet things weren’t looking good for the Hammers on Monday when Peter Crouch gave Paul Lambert’s Potters the lead, only for a brilliant Andy Carroll strike to clinch a point for the East London outfit, thus moving them seven points clear of 18th place Southampton prior to their 0-0 draw with Leicester City on Thursday.
As such, there have been many satisfied Hammers supporters in the Tavern this week, several of whom are pretty confident that their side will indeed avoid relegation this season, what with the club six points clear of danger with just five matches remaining.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident West Ham fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that their side will attempt to make Joe Hart’s loan move permanent in the summer.
And while the 31-year-old may well be a useful addition to Moyes’ squad next term, they should forget about the Englishman and instead try to lure his £4.5 million-rated Manchester City teammate Yaya Toure (as per Transfermarkt) to the London Stadium.
Ultimately, the East London club have struggled in the central midfield ranks this season, what with Cheikhou Kouyate often out of form and Pedro Obiang struggling with injury, leaving Mark Noble as the main man in the middle of the park.
And while the Hammers legend has performed consistently this term, with the amount of attacking talent at Moyes’ disposal, the English midfielder needs greater industry and strength alongside him to really dominate those midfield duels.
And Toure would certainly provide that.
The 34-year-old has been one of the best players in the Premier League since he arrived at City back in 2010, with his incredible midfield ability playing a huge part in helping the Citizens to Premier League title successes back in 2012 and 2014.
Be it composure from long range or those driving runs which became synonymous with the Ivorian, the former Barcelona ace has it all to be an excellent midfield option for the Hammers in the twilight of his career.
Yes, some Hammers fans will be unconvinced given he is 34 and will turn 35 next month, but in terms of bringing greater steel, industry, and overall ability to the centre of midfield, Toure is as good an option as any currently in the Premier League.
And with his contract up in the summer (as per Transfermarkt), it’s a move the Hammers simply must seek to make as opposed to sealing a permanent deal for City teammate Hart.
