Forget Kondogbia: Tottenham must sign 1 of these 2 midfielders instead

Tottenham supporters have been pretty deflated in the Transfer Tavern in recent weeks such has been their side’s poor Premier League form, yet they did have something to cheer about in midweek as their team eased past Apoel Nicosia in their final Champions League group game.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won just one of their last six league games to slip to sixth place and 18 points adrift of leaders Manchester City, thus surely seeing their wait for the title go on for another season. However, our resident Spurs fans did have something to cheer about on Wednesday as goals from Fernando Llorente, Son Heung-min, and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou sealed a comfortable 3-0 success over Apoel Nicosia at Wembley, thus seeing Pochettino’s side end their Champions League group stage campaign with 16 points from their six games, more than any other team in the competition.

Nonetheless, there have been many despondent Spurs fans in the Tavern recently, many of whom are hoping that Wednesday’s win can be a springboard to success in the league, starting against Stoke City at the national stadium on Saturday.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for those Tottenham fans lining up at the bar to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that target Geoffrey Kondogbia is happy at Spanish side Valencia.

The 24-year-old moved to the Mestalla on loan back in August from Italian giants Inter Milan, yet with his contract up at the San Siro at the end of the season, speculation was building about where his next destination could be.

Yet recent reports suggest that the Frenchman’s ‘preference’ is to remain at Valencia, as opposed to joining reported interested parties Arsenal and Tottenham, and as such Pochettino must forget about the 24-year-old and instead focus on landing one of these TWO midfielders in January…

Ross Barkley

It looked for all the world that Ross Barkley would be swapping Everton for Chelsea in the last knockings of the summer transfer window, only for no deal to materialise for one reason or another.

However, the England star has still yet to pen a new deal at Goodison Park, and with little over six months left on his current deal, new manager Sam Allardyce may well look to cash in on the talented midfielder in the New Year.

And with Pochettino’s Spurs also reportedly interested in the 24-year-old, it’s a move the Tottenham boss must look to make in a bid to bolster his ranks ahead of the second half of the season.

Suso

Spain international Suso came up through the ranks at Premier League side Liverpool, but only mustered 21 first team appearances for the Reds before leaving for AC Milan in 2015.

Yet the 24-year-old has resurrected his career with 13 goals and 18 assists in just 66 games for the Italian giants, form which has reportedly attracted the interest of Pochettino’s Spurs in the last few months.

And given how impressive Suso has been at Milan, it’s a deal the Tottenham boss should look to strike when the transfer window reopens on January 1.
