Birmingham vs Sunderland
There’s poor form, there’s bad form, there’s no form at all and then there’s Sunderland. Birmingham aren’t doing much good but they look Champions League compared to the Black Cats. The difference is, that whilst Steve Bruce is still just cushioned from relegation, Alez McLeish is not. Four points are all that lie between his side and Wigan. Birmingham might feel they have three points on a plate here but if they foul up, the consequences won’t be nice. 2-1 is 8/1.
Blackpool vs Wigan
This may not be pretty to watch. The Tangerines have for weeks now been drawn towards the foot of the table like a teeny tiny helpless space ship being sucked into a black hole. Ian Holloway’s voice once bellowed across the universe, now it’s just a fading squeak as him and his crew gradually fade into the void.1-2 is 9/1.
Everton vs Blackburn
Being Blackburn is a dangerous game. Like Brum beneath them they too are just two points from the drop zone. Everton by contrast are an example to us all. No multimillion pound signings, a constant drip feed of rubbish stories about their manager ‘having to go’ and yet there they are sitting seventh like butter wouldn’t melt. 1-1 @ 6/1.
West Brom vs Chelsea
Rabid Roy’s Barmy Army! Proof that there are no easy games in the Premiership for anyone anymore. Including Chelsea. For The Baggies this has to be about damage limitation. For Chelsea a disproportionate number of eyes will be on that man Fernando. Perhaps if some of team mates passed to him, that might help.1-1 draw @ 11/2.
West Ham vs Aston Villa
The Hammers looked as if they had scrapped their way out of all this. But then it appeared that they hadn’t. Gerald Houllier is doing a good impression of a Roman emperor fiddling while Villa Park burns. West Ham are tired, angry and have generally had enough of all this ‘going down’ business. Prediction 2-1 @ 8/1.
