Free transfer: West Ham would be foolish to pass up on £18m-rated pass master

West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting their next summer signing as Manuel Pellegrini continues his squad overhaul.

The Chilean is tasked with returning the Hammers to the top half of the Premier League. David Moyes managed to save the club from relegation, but Pellegrini was viewed as the right man to take them forward. The 64-year-old completed his first deal of the window, signing Fulham defender – Ryan Fredericks.

Pellegrini would be wise to take advantage of Jack Wilshere’s situation at Arsenal. New manager, Unai Emery, has not given the former England international the assurances he was looking for in order to sign a new deal at the Emirates. So, with that in mind, Wilshere has decided to depart his boyhood club in search of first-team football.

Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old’s career has been plagued with injuries. Nevertheless, he made 40 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals and notching seven assists. With his contract expiring at the end of the month, he’ll be available for free.

The Irons could have the advantage in the race for his signature ahead of the likes of Everton, Wolves and Newcastle as they will offer Wilshere the chance to stay in London. Under Pellegrini, the Hammers will surely be an attractive prospect, so if he can work his way into the engine room there, his career would certainly be on an upward trajectory.

If Wilshere can put his injury problems in the past, he could prove to be a fantastic signing.
