Fulham captain Tom Cairney has been offered nearly double his wages to join newly promoted Championship side Wrexham when his contract expires this summer. TalkSport reported that the long serving midfielder could be set for a move away from the club after a decade long stint.
Cairney has the most appearances and longest tenure of anyone in the current Fulham squad, with over 350 appearances for the club across all competitions. The 34 year old looks likely to depart this summer and could be the next veteran addition to a Wrexham squad that already has 11 players over the age of 30.
That includes former Premier League players Jay Rodriguez, James McClean, and Steven Fletcher and the Welsh side is reportedly ready to make Cairney their highest paid player to add to that list.
Wrexham has already made contact with the player’s representatives and offered him £50,000-a-week. This nearly doubles his current £30,000-a-week wage packet at Fulham, and the player could be tempted to spend his remaining years at the Racecourse Ground.
This offer also dwarfs their current highest-earner Jay Rodriquez’s deal of £15,000-a-week.
Cairney wanted by Wrexham

Wrexham are flying high on the back of an historic third successive promotion. The club is set to compete in the Championship next season and will look to bolster their ranks with more experience.
Cairney boasts not only 412 Premier League matches under his belt, but also 318 Championship matches throughout his career. The Scotland international spent his early years at Leeds before being released at the age of 16 in 2007. From there he joined Hull City, starring the youth academy before making his first team debut it 2009.
He moved to Blackburn in 2013 initially on loan before a permanent move a year later, and after a short stint joined Fulham in 2015. He was mainstay for much of his time at the club, anchoring the midfield and becoming club captain at the beginning of the 2017-18 season.
He remains a key voice in the dressing room at Craven Cottage and would add leadership to the Wrexham ranks.
Owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham have enjoyed a fairy tale rise into the limelight. Reynolds publicly stated Wrexham’s ambitions to play in the Premier League, and with just one more promotion standing in their way the club are reportedly set for their biggest transfer window this summer.
The club previously utilized the free transfer market for many signings but are now buoyed by their promotion prize money. Wrexham is also linked with a move for Premier League great Jamie Vardy who announced he will leave Leicester this summer.
