Newcastle United: Craig Hope shares triple injury concern

Soccer Football - Premier League - Liverpool v Newcastle United - Anfield, Liverpool, Britain - August 31, 2022 Newcastle United's Alexander Isak

The Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has shared a triple injury concern for Newcastle United ahead of their trip to Fulham in the Premier League this weekend.

The Lowdown: Some ‘good news’

Hope reported some ‘good news’ for the St. James’ Park outfit on the injury front earlier this week.

Both Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes should return for the clash at the weekend, while Allan Saint-Maximin has a chance of making the bench.

Elliot Anderson has been in training after a hamstring problem, while Jonjo Shelvey is thought to be making ‘excellent progress’ in his recovery from the same issue.

The Latest: Now the bad news…

Taking to Twitter, Hope has also shared the ‘not-so-good news’ for the North East club with regards to injuries, as Alexander Isak will miss the Fulham game with a leg injury, while Chris Wood is having a scan on his injured ribs, and Matt Ritchie has picked up a calf injury in training:

“But, the not-so-good news… Alexander Isak will be absent, although leg injury not thought to be long term. Chris Wood is having scan on injured ribs & Matt Ritchie has picked up calf injury in training. Again, though, there is hope last two aren’t serious.”

Newcastle news!

The Verdict: Isak especially a blow

The loss of Isak for the match away at Fulham will especially be a blow for Eddie Howe and his team.

The new signing from Real Sociedad has performed well in the absence of Wilson, scoring two goals in his first three appearances in the Premier League, including a strike at Anfield against Liverpool (Transfermarkt).

While Wilson should return in his place, there may be some question marks over his match sharpness having just come back from injury himself, and with Wood now injured as well, Howe would likely have wanted to play Isak instead.

Now, the manager may have to rush Wilson back into the side in Isak’s absence, which is certainly not ideal given his injury history.
