Gavi in action for Barcelona

Manchester City are eyeing a move for Barcelona midfielder Gavi, who may be able available on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to a report.

The Lowdown: City targeting midfielder

Man City are weighing up a whole host of potential signings to bolster their midfield, with the Sky Blues said to be in pole position to sign Romeo Lavia as a possible replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, who is yet to sign a new contract.

Other options in the engine room include Declan Rice, with the race for the West Ham United captain said to be ‘intensifying‘, while Brighton & Hove Albion’s World Cup winning maestro Alexis Mac Allister is also said to be on the radar.

Up to this point, Pep Guardiola has mainly been considering players with proven Premier League experience, however it has now become apparent that the Sky Blues could have a unique opportunity to sign Barcelona starlet Gavi…

The Latest: Gavi eyed

According to a report from The Times, Man City are keeping an eye on the ongoing situation involving the Barca midfielder, whereby his current club cannot afford to register him.

Despite being viewed by Xavi as an essential part of the La Liga side’s future, the 18-year-old could leave for free in the summer, having recently had his registration overturned.

City are not the only Premier League side keeping an eye on the situation, however, with rivals Liverpool also named as potential suitors for the central midfielder.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Judging by how highly the youngster is rated by Xavi, Barcelona will undoubtedly look to find a solution to the messy situation in the near future, but if he does become available for a summer transfer, then the Sky Blues should definitely look to get a deal done.

The Barca academy graduate has been hailed by football writer Miguel Delaney, who described him as ‘sensational’, while journalist Josh Bunting has also praised him as being ‘excellent to watch’ due to his ability on the ball.

Despite only being 18-years-old, the maestro is already an absolutely vital player for Barcelona, making 36 appearances in all competitions this season, and he already has 17 caps for national side Spain.

Gavi is displaying all the hallmarks that he will go on to be one of the best midfielders in the world, and so Man City should continue to monitor the situation involving his registration.
